Legion Bean Dinner April 19:
Proceeds fund boys and girls state trips
Members of American Legion Post 457 are hosting their annual Bean Soup and Cornbread Lunch fundraiser on Saturday, April 19.
The luncheon will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Post 457 building, 230 Otis Street, Sunbury (next to the water tower by the village’s up-ground reservoirs).
The price is a modest $4 in advance, or $5 at the door.
Proceeds fund sending local students to Buckeye Boys State and Buckeye Girls State and other Post 457 activities.
Contact any Post 457 member for advance tickets, or call 740-965-2111.
Post 457 Commander Roy Terry said the programs that members of American Legion Post 457 are involved with are separate and distinct from other organizations.
“We participate in Memorial Day and July 4 parades,” Terry said. “We actively support Buckeye Boys State, Buckeye Girls State, and our Honor Guard honors deceased veterans at the gravesite when requested by their immediate families.”
Terry also noted that Post 457 participates in Veteran Days activities in local schools, and raises money for the Ohio Warrior Scholarship Program to provide financial support to Ohio children who have lost a parent in the War on Terrorism.
“Our Post is made up of proud veterans of all ages from World War II, Korea, VietNam, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and they represent every military branch,” Terry added. “We invite all Big Walnut area veterans to join our local American Legion team; you can participate at any level you feel comfortable with.”
Members of American Legion Post 457 meet at 7:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month at the Legion Hall at 230 Otis Street.
