Sunbury United Methodist Church will host a Red Cross blood drive from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sunday at the church, 100 West Cherry Street, Sunbury.

Over 1,500 blood drives have been canceled in 34 states due to bad weather this winter. That means there were 50,000 fewer donations — the equivalent of the Red Cross not collecting blood across the country for three days.

Every day hospital patients rely on generous blood donors for the precious blood products they need to treat a wide variety of medical conditions.

In fact, nearly 6,000 times a say someone receives blood from a Red Cross donor, and yet only about 3 percent of the population donates. It’s so important that generous donors give regularly so that blood products of all types are available whenever and wherever they are needed.

Please call 800-Red-Cross (800-733-2767) or go on-line to < redcrossblood.org > to schedule an appointment.
