On Saturday morning members of the Village of Sunbury Tree & Landscape Commission held an Arbor Day Celebration.

Following Noblet’s presentation, those in attendance moved to Evening Park, where they planted a Sargent Crabapple.

The Sargent Crabapple grows slowly to 6 feet to 10 feet tall with a 6-foot to 12-foot spread that exceeds its height. At maturity the tree exhibits profuse clusters of small white fragrant flowers in the spring that are followed by red berries that persist into winter. Birds love the fruit. New leaves are light green, later turning to darker green.

A recent press release issued by the Arbor Day Foundation noted that Sunbury has once again been named a Tree City USA Community by the foundation to honor its commitment to community forestry.

The Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Forrester’s and the USDA Forest Service sponsors the Tree City USA Program.
