During last Thursday (May 1) evening’s Genoa Township Board of Trustees meeting, the trustees thanked residents for supporting the township’s method of communicating through social media. During April, Genoa Township had its 1,000th individual “Like” on the Township Facebook page.

The trustees said residents interested in staying up to date on current events in Genoa Township are encouraged to “Like” the township on Facebook or subscribe to the various Township e-mail distribution lists at < genoatwp >.

The trustees also noted that residents are invited to participate in the May 16 to 18 Genoa Township Expo, Bicycle Tour and Center Green Park Festival.

Members of the Genoa Township Business Association are hosting the Fourth Annual Community & Entertainment Expo in the Kroger parking lot on Friday, May 16, and Saturday, May 17; and Trek Columbus is hosting the Fourth Annual Bicycle Tours benefiting the Genoa Township Parks Improvement Fund on Saturday, May 17. The tours begin at 9 a.m.

The Township will also host a Community Festival beginning at 1 p.m. at Center Green Park on Sunday, May 18. A $100 donation was graciously accepted from Feridean Commons to support the festival. Residents are encouraged to come out and support these community events and enjoy a range of activities.

In other business, Genoa Township Fire Department Chief Gary Honeycutt presented the trustees with two grants, an $18,786 grant awarded by the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and a $2,750 grant awarded by the Ohio Department of Public Safety for fire safety training and equipment.

The trustees accepted both grants and approved the purchase of two automated chest compression systems with the funds. The trustees also approved a cooperative agreement with Harlem Township and the City of Westerville to purchase a self-contained breathing apparatus and associated equipment using Assistance to Firefighter Grant money.

The Trustees approved a bid for sidewalk repairs. The Genoa Township Maintenance Department has provided notice to various property owners responsible for repairing sidewalks along Genoa Township roadways. Many owners chose to participate in this cooperative bid that will be assessed back on their property taxes. Improvements will be made this summer.

The trustees noted that new public restrooms at Freeman Road Park are now open and available for use.

The township’s Door-to-Door Vender Policy is being reviewed. Genoa Police Department Chief Steve Gammill said he is in the process of updating the vender licensing procedure to ensure the background of those marketing products and services door-to-door in the township are properly researched.

The Genoa Township Fire Department will offer a course for 11- to 14-year -olds who are babysitting or planning to start a babysitting business. For more information contact the Fire Department at (614) 568-2040 or watch for updates at < genoatwp.com >.

The trustees renewed an annual agreement with the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District. The soil and water district assists residents in understanding and finding appropriate ways to address drainage concerns. Residents can contact the Delaware Soil & Water Conservation District staff at 740-368-1921 to request an on-site meeting to examine any drainage concerns.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Genoa Township Board of Trustees is 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, at the Genoa Township Hall, 5111 South Old 3C Highway, Westerville.
