Canine Companions for Independence received a $5,000 grant from the Delaware County Foundation with contributions from both the Amos Family Fund and Jack and Jane VanFossen Fund. The funding will be used to help off-set the costs of raising and training assistance dogs.


Canine Companions is a non-profit organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing highly-trained assistance dogs and ongoing support to ensure quality partnerships. The North Central Region of Canine Companions is located in Delaware and serves 14 states. The overall cost incurred by Canine Companions from the birth of each puppy through the lifetime of the human/assistance dog team is $50,000.


Thanks to supporters, like the Delaware County Foundation, Canine Companions provides the assistance dogs, their training and ongoing follow-up support free of charge. Canine Companions does not receive any government funding and relies on donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to continue to enhance the lives of people with disabilities. Canine Companions is proud of their community partnership with the Delaware County Foundation. The Delaware County Foundation has supported Canine Companions since 1997.
