Buck, a a 5-year-old Vizsla and Doberman Pinscher Mix, and Bentley, a domestic short hair kitten, are this week’s Cat and Dog of The Week from the Humane Society of Delaware County (HSDC), 4920 S.R. 37 E., just east of Delaware.

Buck, who has a beautiful red coat and weighs about 65 pounds, came to HSDC after he lost his best canine friend at his first home.

Buck’s family found he wasn’t acting like himself, so they brought him to the shelter to help find him a new home. Buck wants another best friend, and is ready for a home with a dog also looking for a friend.

Buck is sensitive on his ears and paws touched, so he would be better in a home with older children.

The adoption fee for Buck and other adult dogs is $117. Puppies 6 months old and younger are $137.

Those who believe black cats are bad luck haven’t met Bentley.

Bentley’s soft black fur is accented with a shot of white. At just 3.3 pounds and just shy of a three-months old, Bentley is one of many kittens now looking for a permanent home at HSDC. He is already microchipped, dewormed and given flea medications on a regular basis. Bentley and all of the kittens have been tested for FIV/FeLV, spayed or neutered and given shots appropriate for their ages.

The adoption fee for Bentley and other kittens 6 months old and younger is $85. The adoption fee for adult cats is $60.

Summer shelter hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Adoptions are processed until 5:30 p.m.

The Low-cost Spay and Neuter Clinic is by appointment only. Please call 740-369-7387 for more information.

The Low-cost Vaccination Clinic is from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesdays of the month.

The Humane Society is operating from a waiting list for the surrender of all animals. Please contact the shelter to be put on a waiting list if you have an animal you need to surrender. The mandatory surrender fees are $40 per dog, $60 for a litter of puppies, $25 per cat or kitten $40 for a litter of kittens.

Not looking for a cat or dog, but may be interested in a Guinea Pig? HSDC may have pets other than dogs and cats available from time to time. Visit the listings of other animals at www.hsdcohio.org/adopt-otherpets.htm.

HSDC also works with horses in its Horse Rescue Program, and is looking for good foster and adoptive homes for horses it rescues. For more information, visit www.hsdcohio.org/horserescueinfo.htm.

HSDC is in critical need of foster homes for animals, gasoline gift cards and toilet paper. The shelter is also in need of both kitten and adult cat food. Also on the wish list for the shelter are 13-gallon garbage bags, scoopable cat litter, postage stamps, copier paper, file folders, AA batteries, cotton balls, small bedspreads and large bath towels. HSDC’s cats also need stretch and scratch pads, cat toys and cat beds. Dogs at HSDC need leashes and collars.

Donated items can be brought to the shelter during business hours, purchased through Amazon.com on the HSDC website, www.hsdcohio.org/wishlists.htm. Monetary donations can also be made through the HSDC website.
