Otterbein University junior Tabatha Piper received yet another conference award last Wednesday (March 5) morning, earning Second Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honors in women’s basketball.
A 5-foot-11 forward from Sunbury (Big Walnut High School), Piper garnered a spot on the second team for the second-year in a row after another productive season on the hardwood. She now has five all-conference awards between both volleyball and basketball.
Piper led the Cardinals and the OAC in rebounding this season, pulling down 9.7 rebounds per outing and reaching double-digits in 12 different outings. She also finished seventh in the league in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game, and eighth with a .496 field-goal percentage.
John Carroll University swept the special awards, led by first-year taskmaster Kelly Marrone earning Coach of the Year honors as a result of leading her club to a 21-4 record and at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament.
JCU senior Missy Spahar was voted the OAC Player of the Year after leading the league and ranking second in the country with 25.4 points per game. Her younger sister, Katlyn, was selected as the Freshman of the Year, an award that Piper received two years ago in 2012.
